Lauren Chapalee

Director of Innovation

Lauren has been empowering students for over 15 years as a teacher, professional learning leader, and curriculum designer. She taught elementary and high school in Camden, NJ, and Washington, DC, earning recognition as a distinguished teacher in DC Public Schools and a national teacher fellow with Hope Street Group. Before supporting Great Minds Schools, she led the learning design of an English language arts curriculum as well as a science curriculum development team.

Lauren holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from George Mason University. Her work in education began as a high school student in Maryland, when she was elected by peers and appointed by the governor to serve as the voting student member of the Maryland State Board of Education. She fell in love with education and has never looked back.

As a happy resident of small-town West Virginia, you might find Lauren paddleboarding on the Potomac River, playing improvisational music with neighbors, or exploring the mountains with her husband and two children.
