Socialization at Great Minds Virtual is a key component of the student experience each day. One of the questions we get asked most frequently is about the kinds of clubs offered for our students. Each term, students choose a new club based on their interests and attend that club meeting on Fridays. We also provide new clubs each term based on recommendations from our students! Here is some information about the clubs students have enjoyed at Great Minds Virtual so far.

🎨Artful Hearts

Come and get artsy with us! Each week we will explore new forms of expression to channel our inner inventiveness. Artful Hearts will be a place to freely practice the arts in unique ways while developing bonds within our school community. As we let our imaginations run wild, we will explore diverse avenues of enrichment to compile a portfolio that will showcase our individual artistic beauty.

🌱Backyard Botanicals

Get ready to learn how to grow your own food in your own backyard! Even if you don’t have a traditional backyard with space for a garden, you will only need a few small planters, soil, and seeds to get started. This is a great time of year to start plants indoors, too! You will be empowered to use the scientific model to encourage sustainable, healthy, affordable food alternatives.

Breathe In🧘Breathe Out

Come slow down with us! We’ll stretch and practice yoga, learn how our brains work, keep a journal of our thinking, and learn how to just sit and breathe. A great club for people who think a lot and want to give their racing minds a break!

Cards for Kindness💌

Cards are more than just a nice gift. They impact everyone involved. Join us as we partner with “Cards for a Cause” to support children who are experiencing a challenging time. Together, we will create encouraging homemade cards for disheartened, hospitalized, and/or seriously ill children. You have the power to bring hope and uplift the spirits of a child during their difficult time. If you have artful designs, encouraging quotes, or kind messages to share, “Cards for a Cause” club is for you!

Creative🧑‍💻Coding

Do you enjoy video games? Are you amazed by apps? Do you want to learn more about programming the internet of things or machine learning? Whether you are an experienced coder or are just curious about how coding works, you can code with friends and learn new tricks. You can start with the basics or jump right into languages like Python and Javascript.

Creative Writing✒️

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

e.e. Cummings

Join us in Creative Writing for journaling, listening, reading, investigating and sharing our written and spoken words!

Curiosity Club🧠

We’ll look very closely at our environment, paying attention to the minutiae that we normally filter. From the observations we’ll create and share experience maps with the group. We’ll learn more about ourselves, each other, and our world!

Fitness & Health 🏋️

What does being fit mean to you? In this club we will explore the basics behind what it means to be physically fit. Learn how your body functions; learn the complex science behind exercise; explore what it means to be mindful and what inspires you, and determine how you can test your current level of fitness!

Friends of France Club / Amis Du France

Bonjour! In Friends of France Club / Amis Du Franceais we will discover French language and culture together. Join us if you are curious about speaking French, the history of France, French desserts, cinema, ballet, and more! We will learn a lot ~ nous apprendrons beaucoup!

Yearbook Club📕

Are you interested in telling stories? Taking pictures? Designing?
Well, Yearbook is the perfect fit for you! Be a part of the inaugural Great Minds Virtual Yearbook club and become one of the content creators and editors for the school’s first yearbook.

Our students have expressed interest in clubs focusing on foreign languages, animation, robotics, theater, and more. We look forward to expanding our club offerings based on what kinds of knowledge our students would like to build.
